There are many volunteer opportunities at Helping Children Worldwide as well as through our partners at Connections for Hope.
Help with Events – HCW has several events throughout the year and having the support of volunteers really helps the success of the event. Volunteer at Connections for Hope – There are many organizations at Connections for Hope in Herndon, VA that depend on volunteers to implement their programs.
Volunteer @ Fairfax/Falls Church Community Services Board They provide services which assist, improve and maximize the potential of individuals with or at risk of developmental delay, intellectual disabilities, mental illness, and alcohol or drug abuse or dependency and strengthen their capacity for living self-determined, productive and valued lives within our community. http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/csb/volunteers/
Volunteer @ The Jeanie Schmidt Free Clinic is a non-profit, community-based organization committed to providing access to quality health services to uninsured low-income residents of NW Fairfax County. Volunteer opportunities include:
Medical Support: Specialists are needed to provide appointment times for off- site consultations in a variety of areas including dentistry. Day (9-5pm) and evening (6-8pm) clinics seek MDs and NPs to provide continuation of care exams for diabetic and hypertensive adults and to participate in education Group Visits. Phlebotomists are sought on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9-noon
Interpretation Support: Bi- lingual volunteers are given unique opportunities to contribute to adult and child patient care through interpretation in one on one medical exams and in group settings. A variety of languages are needed.
Community Service Support: JSFC attempts to provide bagged meals for patients and snacks for volunteers at our Thursday evening clinics. Patient meal suggestions: A sandwich (no pork products, peanut butter or mayonnaise), piece of fruit, low calorie treat and bottle of water. Volunteer snack suggestion: grab and go varieties like crackers and cheese, etc. We would love to accept your donations of patient “goodie bags”, office and medical supplies.
Goodie Bag Supplies – Toothpaste, toothbrush, personal care Items (Shampoo etc.), Zip lock bags gallon size and included for, children a small unused toy, stickers, school supplies.
Office Supplies - 8 x 11 Office Paper White or Colored, Envelopes #10, Envelopes 9 x 12, Pens, Labels 3 Up, Sticky nametags, Gift Cards for Staples or Office Depot
Medical Supplies – Antibacterial Gel, Advil, Gloves (any Size), Alcohol Pads, Stethoscope, Medical Scale, “Chucks” Disposable Pads, Needles used for Blood Draw, Insulin Needles, Over the Counter, Unopened Medicines, Physician Samples of Medicines, Vitamins, Calcium Supplements with Vitamin D, Children’s Vitamins with Iron
Volunteer @ Just Neighbors They provide immigration legal services to low-income immigrants and refugees of all faiths and nationalities in Northern Virginia.
Just Neighbors seeks volunteers to assist at its monthly Saturday morning community clinics at Connections for Hope. Volunteers at these clinics conduct the initial intake interviews with our low-income immigrant clients, who come from around the world. After conducting the initial interview, volunteers report to our staff attorneys what they’ve learned so that the attorneys can advise the clients of their options under immigration law. Often volunteers are able to help the client move forward with some type of Immigration application at the appointment. Spanish speakers are especially helpful. Volunteer @ Vecinos Unidos/Neighbors United They provide a free year round program for students in grades 1-6 consisting of homework assistance during the school year and an educationally based summer program during July & August. http://www.vecinosunidos.org/volunteering_Donating.html
