Through working with the Child Rescue Centre in Bo, Sierra Leone, we became acutely aware of the intense need for healthcare services for children and other members of the Bo community, especially those with no ability to pay for treatment. Helping Children Worldwide received a significant matching grant in 2005 to establish a hospital near the Child Rescue Centre complex.  This hospital provides primary care for children and adults and provides services that address the highest child and maternal mortality rates in the world.

Achieve a measurable decrease in the infant and maternal mortality rates in Sierra Leone by providing holistic, community-focused care regardless of ability to pay.  To accomplish this, we will transform Mercy Hospital into a world class center of medical excellence supported by intensive community outreach, a new surgical center, health worker training, and research in maternal and child health. read more
