The Sierra Leone civil war resulted in the destruction of approximately 1,270 primary schools, which created a shortage of schools and teachers and led to years of education lost by children across the country. Lack of education contributes to endemic poverty and 70% of the Sierra Leone population lives below the international poverty line of $1 per day. Educating students in Sierra Leone has the potential to impact many lives and change the future of the country.

A core part of the Child Rescue Centre’s mission is to provide education and skills training for orphans and street children. As young children connected with the CRC continue to grow, the love and support they receive provides them with the confidence, dreams and opportunity to continue their education at the university level.

Currently, twelve CRC students are studying at the university level in the fields of medicine, public health, engineering, information technology, journalism, education, and development.

At a fraction of the cost of college tuition in the United States, your scholarship will allow a CRC student to continue his or her education at the university level and enable him or her to become a doctor, teacher, engineer, journalist, or other professional and lead the next generation of their country to a brighter future.
