HCW raises money all year round for the programs we support and to provide for operations necessary to support those programs.  General Donations are used to support both programs and operations to keep those programs running. We keep administration and fundraising costs to a minimum, as noted in our audited financial statements and nonprofit reports to the IRS. 

As of 2026, the vast majority of our support is directed to allies in Africa, and primarily within the country of Sierra Leone. Approximately 3% of our program underwriting and support is devoted to work we do outside of or beyond the Continent of Africa. 

We urge you to use online donations, as they have been proven to be the most secure way of transmitting money (outside of handing it to somebody in person). However, if you wish to mail a check, our address is:

Donor policy - allowable and non-allowable donor restrictons.
  • HCW is required to review donor restrictions on contributions according to nonprofit law, which requires mission alignment. To ensure that restrictions are in compliance with the law, HCW provides special campaigns to allow donors to designate contributions.

    Restrictions that are outside of pre-approved campaign designations apply after a legal review and formal acceptance by HCW. We  attempt to honor donors' wishes to the extent possible, apply funds to a use that is similar and aligns with our mission, or advise you that your funds cannot be utilized in that manner, we will notify the donor of our intent to either reapply them, or reject the donation.
