Helping Children Worldwide is grateful to be the recipient of a generous grant from the First Fruit Foundation which will allow the CRC to renovate a former dormitory to make it suitable for visiting case manager, social workers, and caregivers to attend family reintegration workshops. The grant also covers the development of curriculum to teach case managers Attachment Theory, microfinance instruction, and implementation of the Child Status Index.
Once trained, the CRC case managers will be empowered to teach these skills to caregivers in villages served by the CRC and Mercy. The CRC also plans to offer family strengthening workshops, which includes positive discipline and life skills. The updates to the dorms will make them comfortable for workshop participants to stay at the CRC overnight.

Orphanage leaders from Bo, Makeni, Kenema, and Pujehun will learn the importance of children growing up in families, the basics about how to transition from a residential model to family-based programs, and be invited to join a community of practice together to continue to share best practices in the care of orphans and vulnerable children. Opening remarks will be made by Patrick Bangura, the Bo representative of the Ministry of Gender and Children's Affairs, and the keynote speaker will be the Honorable Minister Manty Tarawalli, Minister of the Gender and Children's Affairs for Sierra Leone. HCW's Assistant Director Mohamed Nabieu will be present for the workshop.
The CRC counseling department held a one day Attachment Theory Training for newly reintegrated families, to help them learn strategies for caring for their vulnerable children who have been rescued from the street. Thirteen people, including caregivers and children attended. Topics of the training include child development, secure attachment, appropriate and inappropriate behavior, and caregiver well-being. The parents were advised to continue encouraging their children to keep studying at home, while observing the governments recommended COVID-19 guidelines. The participants were treated to refreshments, and their travel expenses were paid. - Reported by CRC case manager Emmanuel Lamin |
