Monjama and her brother are sent to the orphan home to live when their father dies. Their mother cannot feed all her children and she is afraid they will go to the streets, where it isn't safe. Monjama misses her mom, and worries she will never see her again. She takes the advice of her friend Rosa to pray every day, go to school, study hard and bravely make a life for herself.
