On this Mother's Day, how will your gift help Mercy Hospital better serve mothers that are in dire need? Join Helping Children Worldwide and Mercy Hospital in providing nutritional supplements to malnourished babies. You can bring joy to the faces of mothers by giving their babies a chance at a healthy life. For $35, you will help Mercy Hospital cover the costs of a maternity clinic visit (prenatal and post-natal care, including immunizations) for a mother and their baby. Every day in Sierra Leone, thousands of vulnerable mothers are struggling to give birth safely and help their babies stay alive. On this Mother's Day, you can provide life-changing support to mothers and their children. We all know that all mothers are unique, and each mother that comes to Mercy Hospital presents a unique case. Mercy Hospital assesses each mother's situation to best serve her individual needs. Whether pregnant, in labor, or caring for a newborn, Mercy Hospital builds a meaningful relationship to ensure both mother and child receive the highest quality of care. Late in 2022, HCW won a grant from the First Fruit Foundation to develop a documentary film telling the stories of orphanages in five different countries in Africa, as they seek to follow in the footsteps of the CRC's own transformation from orphanage to family care. Our first story capture happened in Kenya this February, and we're still tracking the story of a children's home transitioning to family care at the behest of the Kenyan government. In April, Melody Curtiss and Laura Horvath, traveled to Maputo with the CRC's Senior Reintegration Consultant, David Musa, Case Management Supervisor, George Kulanda, award-winning documentary filmmaker, Sam Rich, and Media Coordinator and Cameraperson Marianna Mäkiniemi. This three week trip included meetings in Maputo with various African UMC Bishops and the UMC's General Board of Global Ministries - led by Todd Willis, General Counsel; trips to visit two transitioning orphanage supported by HCW partner, Foundation for Orphans; and a trip to visit F4O's brand new Zoe Empowerment program with F4O's Executive Director, Reverend Wayne Lavender. We look forward to sharing updates and photos from Mozambique in a future post. And stay tuned to find out where we go next! |
